Music is cool. It's really quite awesome. Especially when it has this weird poetry stuff along with it... Lyrics! That's what they are.
I love lyrics. I respect people who can write good ones because apparently it's quite difficult, judging by some of the popular music lately.
But you know what? The lyrics of your FAVORITEST SONG EVAR!!!11 by themselves are not cool enough to make good your crappy picture of a crying wolf-demon cutting its wrists in front of the gradient-colored walls while Photoshop lens flares exude from her badly-drawn anime eyes, nor are they enough to make deep and thoughtful your ____Journal. Especially not if you post the lyrics IN THEIR ENTIRETY and it takes up PAGES AND PAGES and you don't even hide it behind a cut or something.
Artfully done, choice lines of a song can enhance your art or writing whatever, and there are those who can do it well. They're the ones who can take a few lines of a song and incorporate it into a piece of art, or can use it as a springboard to talk about something. But I'm not complaining about them, because they know what they are doing and know to ignore rants such as this
Most folks, however, are retards when it comes to such subtleties and think that quoting NIN at the world will proclaim their awesome insight and/or make clear that their character is some sort of angsty badass.
It does not make you look cool or deep. It means some songwriter somewhere did a pretty good job, sure, but that has nothing to do with you.
